When I was in the sales department, every time I call a customer, there is a good response by 1000s of them and some of them would answer my call again and would be willing to take in all the details and then very few would actually drop in and become our customers.
As days went by, it was really tough to reach to a big number target. I thought I failed in understanding the customer behaviour. While I was discussing the same with my husband, he said, it happens in his work life as well, that, they discuss many ideas, create some products and only a few would be launched and become public.
Though it was a bit consoling at that moment, I was still searching for an answer how to convert all leads into customers. So, I was discussing with some of the real estate start-ups founders, who said, "It is the same with us as well. We get 1000s of leads and a few turn up to listen and out of them only a few would actually become our customers. And the ratio of conversion of leads to loyal customers more or less remains same for every business."
I thought, why not learn human psychology and understand human behaviour with respect to behaviour pattern of the customer. I thought, before that, why not understand myself, my behaviour patterns while I purchase anything.....
"As a customer, whether I shop for clothing or an organic face cream or a washing machine or even to buy a property, I always look out for plenty of options and then decide which one to try.
As a business solution, we take a product to customer and sales force make 1000s of calls to the people to make them understand the product and could make a very few of them as customers.
In digital marketing, there are multiple ways of doing ads and pitching the customer. The amount spent on ads is directly proportional to the sales. The more you spend, the more customers you get. The more impressions you make, the more customers you get."
Well, so as per my understanding, while I was understanding the nature of the sales conversion, I understood human behaviour patterns. Just as mentioned in BhagavadGita by Krishna.
मनुष्याणां सहस्रेषु कश्िचद्यतति सिद्धये।
यततामपि सिद्धानां कश्िचन्मां वेत्ति तत्त्वतः।।7.3।।
manuṣyāṇāṅ sahasrēṣu kaśicadyatati siddhayē.
yatatāmapi siddhānāṅ kaśicanmāṅ vētti tattvataḥ৷৷7.3৷৷
Meaning - Out of many 1000s of humans, some try to reach and attain perfection. Out of some of them, only some know the real truth of me.
Very true, it is not easy to eat healthy food regularly, to stay balanced all time, to stick to one particular product, to know about everything in life. Though the means to reach is decided, and easily available like many sales channels, very few would actually turn out to be balanced ones and loyally successful ones by understanding the very nature of the existence.
Well, truly, the human behaviour is simplified in 1 sentence by Krishna. I don't need to conquer any psychology course. I just need to understand what Krishna said, observe and work as per. Even in a school of 1000 kids, only a few strive to become better and out of them only very few can achieve their dreams.
If every start up understands this human behaviour law, it is easy for them to plan for their marketing expenses and plan for realistic outcome as per their measured impressions.Conversion of all impressions or leads into customers is impossible. It is just like teacher asking every student in the classroom to get full marks.
