I was fascinated by this statement "Life After Death" , when I was in my graduation. I thought I was some crazy lady who was wishing to know the life after death. But, much later I came to know, I have people around me who think alike. And there are many books on the same. However, I didn't adventure any of those, as I picked one and everything I read went above my head or I slept while reading it. But, recently, one of my friends said she read a book and told me it has information about souls etc. I thought for myself, ohh... lets see what Bhagavad Gita says about this, because I heard many a times that Gita has answers for all. And especially, Gita used to be played when someone had passed away in the house. Thanks to corona, now, many are learning and chanting the Gita, even during normal days..:)
But, ya, lets see what Gita said about the life after death.
वासांसि जीर्णानि यथा विहाय
नवानि गृह्णाति नरोऽपराणि।
तथा शरीराणि विहाय जीर्णा-
न्यन्यानि संयाति नवानि देही।।2.22।।
vāsāṅsi jīrṇāni yathā vihāya
navāni gṛhṇāti narō.parāṇi.
tathā śarīrāṇi vihāya jīrṇā-
nyanyāni saṅyāti navāni dēhī৷৷2.22৷৷
Meaning - As we wear new clothes after removing old clothes, the soul finds a new body after the soul leaves the old body.
It sounds as simple as it is.
If my understanding of the Soul is right through this Shloka, the same soul travels through many lives.
I remember the book I read "Many Lives Many Masters" by Dr. Brian Weiss, an author and a Psychiatrist. This book is a story of a patient Catherine, who gets entangled in the problems in her present life. This fascinating case dramatically altered the lives of Catherine and Dr Weiss, and provides important information on the mysteries of the mind, the continuation of life after death and the influence of our past-life experiences on our present behaviour.
Just one read of the book made me understand how I can decide on my own destiny.
And now, with just 1 shloka of 2 lines by Krishna, reinforces the faith in me on myself. I understand, whatever may be the body, however may be the body, soul has an important role to play.
So, what should I majorly understand about the soul? Did Krishna tell anything to Arjuna about Soul?
Yes, before Krishna gave this comparison of clothes and body, Krishna said,
न जायते म्रियते वा कदाचि
न्नायं भूत्वा भविता वा न भूयः।
अजो नित्यः शाश्वतोऽयं पुराणो
न हन्यते हन्यमाने शरीरे।।2.20।।
na jāyatē mriyatē vā kadāci-
nnāyaṅ bhūtvā bhavitā vā na bhūyaḥ.
ajō nityaḥ śāśvatō.yaṅ purāṇō
na hanyatē hanyamānē śarīrē৷৷2.20৷৷
Meaning - There is no birth and no death. There is no past, present and future. Existent ever. Cannot be killed even if the body is harmed or killed.
Woow!! This is like poetry, - a poem written to a lover or spouse. Definitely, if a person falls in love, experiences the soulmate feeling. Definitely, these lines mumble upon when he or she meets the soulmate. When we want to propose, we forget the ego, and kneel down and aspire for a union in relation. So, when there is no ego, no me , then who is proposing? Is it the soul or the body? This is a good question, when you want to decide to marry someone and want to spend your lifetime.
Lets identify ourselves with soul rather than with the body, whenever there is a decision to be taken.
I am sure Krishna Arjuna duo's conversation reveals all the possible ways on how to identify ourselves with soul. Lets explore Bhagavad Gita and Lets implement to make decisions in our lives easier and quicker.
