How do you achieve a balance between emotional, logical and analytical thinking?
When I read the IIT JEE Main result and the topper's interview in The Indian Express, I was reminded of the essence of Bhagavad Gita. A teenager's sacrifice of fun with friends, a sacrifice of watching hours of reels in smartphones, a sacrifice of every root cause of distraction will only help the teenager realise how much THE Time can give back in return (Kalaaya Namaha). IIT JEE Mains results and the topper's sacrifices and action plans to reach the goal is truly a lesson for many of us who wish to lead a purposeful life.
Sacrifice decides your action. Intention as well as action plan is considered to shower result by the universe. Inshort, Sacrifice defines your result. It depends on what you sacrifice, how much and to what extent and how honestly. The next step is, how are you respecting your own sacrifice and the time you have, how are you taking the actions, how are you achieving the balance between emotions, logic and analytical brains.
In Bhagavad Gita, Krishan says in Chapter 2, this is the most practical solution ever to follow to attain balance.
यदा संहरते चायं कूर्मोऽङ्गानीव सर्वशः।
इन्द्रियाणीन्द्रियार्थेभ्यस्तस्य प्रज्ञा प्रतिष्ठिता।।2.58।।
yadā saṅharatē cāyaṅ kūrmō.ṅgānīva sarvaśaḥ.
indriyāṇīndriyārthēbhyastasya prajñā pratiṣṭhitā৷৷2.58৷৷
Meaning - When one is able to draw his senses from the objects of sense on every side, as a tortoise draws in its limbs, then his wisdom is firmly set.
Dr. Sid, the neurologist mentions that the emotional aspects are taken care by the system in the brain called Limbic system which is situated above brainstem. And the logic, all types of quotients like social, cognitive , calculation, creativity, future planning is taken care by the front part of the brain called Prefrontal cortex (PFC) . This Prefrontal cortex should slowly takeover the emotional aspects of the Limbic, with proper tone and gesture.
Limbic always takes responsibility to take control of the situations like big brother and hence, it takes time for us to manage the emotional aspect and become balanced with the help of PFC.
Dr. Sid adds that, PFC should be involved in works like doing something like sacrificing, fasting, so that the limbic understands how important the work is and limbic doesn't disturb with emotions and allows to achieve with dedication.
Well, Krishna, in chapter 4, transfers the knowledge on sacrifice, asks to test our self-control. I shall mention 2 shlokas for a brief understanding
What is action? What is non-action? Even the wise are puzzled in respect of these. 4.16
Of one whose attachments are gone, who is away from various thoughts, whose mind is established in knowledge, who works only for sacrifices, his Karma will merge into the universe. 4.23
It is time for those who want to live a purposeful life to think beyond, take action, sacrifices are a part of the play. The age old strategy of sacrifice works even till today through a live example of a teenager.
